The
Sturgis
Motorcycle
Rally
2006
August 07th - 13th
- South Dakota,
USA -
Every August, hundreds of thousand cowboys
riding their iron frames (we'll give them horse names!) cross the prairies of the South Dakota where graze bisons towards
motorcyclist world Mecca : Sturgis.
Day-5: Grand Teton National Park,
Wy, I finish the day, begun at sunrise and spent to go shooting (with
Cannon box) the black bear and the Deer Mule, and decided to attack
the famous T-Bone of the million dollar Cowboy Bar of Jackson Hole.
Surprised, I was far from suspecting almost 20 years ago by pushing for the first time the door of this establishment, that I'll begin in 2006
the Sturgis Bike Week here (The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally,
its real name!).
Apparently this famous bar,
legend of the western history became, few years ago, one of the
most famous Sturgis Stop Pit, going on or coming back from Sturgis.
Lucky man !
A
great row of H-D in front of the bar and a big atmosphere inside
are waiting for me. Yahoo !
Many
beautiful girls, gone up in kit but that don't disturb me that
their tits are artificials when I can get them... bikers, country music,
stetson, Jack Daniels... the night is going to be long.
Day-2
: finished the madness of Jackson Hole and the magnificent secrets of the Yellowstone National Park, because it is necessary to get closer to
the plains of the Dakota, first I stop to Cody at Irma, the legendary hotel where Buffalo Bill had its customs.
Here
too, the ice cold beer is generously served, the local country band tries
to be listened in the middle of the general hubbub and me, I met
Miss
« Doctor » Jones. She is not really a doctor but I am not really sick... the night is going to be
long.
Day-1: especially don't miss US 14 which
leads to
the Devil Tower.
Big influx, the purpose is close and
it approaches!
A small night at campsite to put myself in the atmosphere and after the good weather... the storm ! The night is going to be long.
D
day : naturally, I begin with Main Street, where five blocks are reserved for the
motorcyclist traffic. Imagine, a sea of H-D and bikers which go and
come, actor-peeping, being and making the show during a week without real
stopping.
Drag pipe, hair in the
wind, leather string and show me your tits… the happiness
!
It is as an incandescent
material, the slightest movement of which distils steams of fire.
But don't expect too see the most beautiful custom bikes...
Most
of the bikers came by the road and the miles are easier with a
stock bike.
For the motorcycles of dream there are stands and bike shows and there that ruffle the hair, that makes lament eyes and if
you don't get the green notes that hurts your hass !...
The hotel
and motel capacity is limited, the atmosphere is more rustic, more authentic as we say in the specialized
magazines ! A look the bikers at the campsite.
Hot
atmosphere 24h/24h. Sturgis, it is a lifestyle, a state of mind. The bikers come from all
American social classes, exceeding the frame of the country, the
kinds and the economic lines. A true summary of America
! The best as the worst.
Located in
the Black Hills, Sturgis Bike Week offers much more that a simple
rally, it is a time of friendship, a space of freedom, the pleasure to
ride until Badlands, to meet the Devil's Tower or to drive until the Sylvan Lake.
Only fasninating
landscapes !
Doubtless less tourists than the other American Bike Week as Daytona, at least we don't
hear French in all
corners of Main Street ! Many come for 1 day, 2 days, some will remain the week, that moves a lot.
Sturgis is
the annual run than the American biker take and big names as Arlen Ness or Billy Lane
get it every year.
As Mike, came from its Alaska by
a long route : Canadian Rockies, Glacier National Park, Yellostone then 2 days to Sturgis and
go to Regina and back home by the North... a 10 000 miles trip... a life for a French
biker !
Sturgis, it is the other
great American bike week, we find thousands of bikers, the biggest builders, the manufacturers of
accessories, bike shows (Penthouse Bike Show, Rat's Hole Custom Bike Shows) and naturally
the Company holds its districts in Rapid City (no mix?).
And, unlike the Daytona Bike Week, Sturgis is almost exclusively dedicated to Harley-Davidson.
The adventure began in 1938 when Pappy and Pearl Hoel (founder of the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club), a
local dealer (Hoel Motors Sturgis) and some friends had the idea to organize a
motorcycle race and a contest stunts.
The first event collected 19
racers for the 1/2 miles and some cars folded for the stunt show.
After
stop of 2 years during the second world war Sturgis was growing and is recognized as a major event of the biker life style.
Approximately 400 000 motorcyclists came to celebrate the 50th
anniversary in 1990 and in 2000, the 60th anniversary welcomed between 550 000 and 650
000 bikers .
The
races of 1/2 miles, with everything began, are always a integral part of the
rally as well to Sturgis as to Rapid City but there are also drag racings and hillclimbs...
Sturgis: we
love it or not ! Naturally someone shall prefer Daytona, Laughling, Laconia... for French, it is often one of the summits of the
harley culture...
The
Americans don't ask so many questions, since they party.
The
week would not be ended without two small rides : the Mt
Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial before pick off
the tent, throwing (!!!) a last glance to the beautiful
babes, a goodbye to Mandi and then go away by the Custer
State Park… Let's
go, let's show, let's rodeo...
Thanks
: Kimi, Mandi, Cindy, Davida, Miss
« Doctor » Jones, Bob, Jerry, Dun, Judd,
Russ, Aaron, Howie, James, Bill... So nice.
